Piazza dell Signoria, the political heart of the city from the Middle age to now, is a real museum in the open; on the south facade, towards the Arno, lies the piazzale degli Uffizzi, and immediately on the side, the Loggia dei Lanzi (1376 – 1382), beneath whose archs, in late gothic style, 12 statues can be found. Amongst which the extraordinary Perseo by Benvenuto Cellini; at the center, the Palazzo della Signoria contributes to the magic of the Piazza.
